The Impact of Hail on Roofing

A thunderstorm can be a very scary event. Hale can be extremely damaging to a house’s windows as well as outside furniture and essentially everything left outside in the storm. What many people don’t think about is how hale impacts their roofing. At Superior Home Improvements we work with home owners, contractors and business owners to apply the best quality materials for your specific roofing concerns.  We would love to help you with your home enhancement project or to repair your existing roofing with our quality materials and dedicated team of professionals.

Superior Home Improvement offers a variety of roofing solutions including slate, asphalt, metal, copper, cedar shakes and more. Cedar shake roofs use wood shingles that are made from split logs.  They have a unique look because of their depth and length and have been made for centuries. Cedar shingles are resistant to insects but not large amounts of rain or hale.

The most common residential roofing material used is asphalt shingles. They are one of the least expensive materials and they also offer a variety of different colors.  When damaged by hale these kind of shingles can start to show felt. With extreme damage to your shingles, they will need replaced to prevent leaks in your home. Asphalt singles are a very stylish addition to any roof. Depending on the amount of damage including hale, your asphalt shingles have the capability to last twenty to twenty five years.

Asphalt shingles may be a great selection however metal roofing is the strongest and most resistant when it comes to extreme weather and hale. Metal roofs come in very sturdy materials such as aluminum, copper, stainless steel and zinc. This makes them ideal in a climate where extreme weather is likely. Another advantage of metal roofing is that it can last forty to seventy-five years if well maintained. It is an amazing benefit to know you will not need to replace your roof as soon as you might need to with other roofing materials.

Another type of roofing material that is pretty durable is slate. This material is also very elegant and has a distinct beauty. Slate roofing can last fifty to one hundred years! This is a very attractive, strong and quality type of roofing.

Hail damage on your roofing can look two different ways based on the type of shingles you have. For example, asphalt and composite shingles cause hail spots that are soft and black. With hale destruction, this type of roof could perhaps have felt showing or the asphalt may seem to be shiny. With wood shingles, hale will cause a split in the shingles and an orange color to appear. There will be dents along the splits.

Do not panic about the hail damage because our experienced and dedicated specialists at Superior Home Improvement are prepared and equipped to help you with any damage you might encounter with you roof. At Superior Home Improvement we proudly serve Central Kentucky and are excited to get started with your home or work project.
